Compassion in a Time of Indifference by Brennan Storey

Compassion in a Time of Indifference

As I walk around my school, I see so many students who need compassion but instead they are treated with indifference. When I am in school, I see that people are ridiculed for being different because they have certain opinions, traits or beliefs. It is important to remember that we are all different and share our world together. It’s not that we need to change who we are to fit in, rather we should accept one another for who we are and learn about our differences to fit together. The more time we spend on getting to know and understand one another the less time we lose out on experiences that can enrich our lives and make us better! It is important to realize that kids do this to each other, but I also see adults treat kids with indifference. All it takes is to be willing to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and understand the world as they see it to better understand who they are as a person.

Life is hard and people face these challenges: abuse, loneliness, discrimination, depression, anxiety, bullying and so many more. Even the smallest decision can affect someone’s emotion in a substantial way. When all we really need to do is listen, support, and show compassion!

Precious lives can be lost because of a lack of compassion shown to them. The lives we lose could be those of the meek, poor, strong and popular; indifference does not discriminate.

So here is some sage advice that I hope you will try, “Hop into different shoes no matter their size, color, design, or shape because you may find something unexpectedly wonderful there that could create positive changes in your own life and those lives around you.

A little about Brennan:

rennan was the King of the High Sea’s in the Musical Pirates at his school Saints Peter and Paul School of Williamsville. He also played William Barfee in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee  summer of 2022 with Performing Arts Music. He also takes voice and acting lessons at Performing Arts Music. This year at SSPP he is Pumba In the Lion King Jr. This summer he will also be performing in the musical Mean Girls with Performing Arts Music.

He is currently in 7th grade and has fallen in love with being a part of musicals. He prefers to play the antagonist when he is performing. Brennan has just found his love for musicals within the past year after gaining control over his OCD. He loves to perform because he can become the character, he is casted as and that provides a break from his OCD and allows him to be free. He loves his siblings and is an amazing big brother. He always wants to help others and enjoys doing community service projects.

Finally, Brennan is super excited to be in the upcoming #itowny production of Shakespeare in the Parking Lot -Twelfth Knight as Sebastian
